Abstract
Through Natsume Soseki and Mori Ogai, stories based on Kakinoki’s experience and thought, interviews and dialogues, and questionnaires and correspondence with anonymous people, we think and talk together about romantic love and sexual love. It consists of an urban essay film set in the old Hongo ward neighbourhood, a reading cafe (reading and tea-drinking events), and one-on-one dialogue tours. With participants and audience in Hongo, we consider the present and future of romance, sex and love.
*Kakinoki will be at the venue except during the dialogue tours and breaks. His up-to-date schedule will be announced on Twitter @masatokakinoki and at the venue.

夏目漱石と森鷗外、自身の体験と思考に基づく物語、インタビューと対話、匿名者たちとのアンケートと文通を通して、恋愛と性愛について共に考え、語り合うプロジェクト。旧本郷区界隈を舞台とする都市エッセイフィルム、リーディングカフェ（読書会とお茶会）、1対1の対話ツアーによって構成される。恋とセックスと愛の今とこれからを、本郷で参加者や観客と考察する。

They are reading and tea-drinking events. We will have read the books, and have conversations together with a cup of tea.
You need to have read the books, but skip reading is also fine as long as you have the subjective sense of having read them.

読書会とお茶会です。本を読んできていただき、Kakinokiを含めた参加者数名でお茶をしながら話をします。
参加には本の「読了」が必要ですが、飛ばし読み、つまみ読みも含め、 主観的に「読んだ」と感じられる状態であれば大丈夫です。漱石と鷗外に関しては、オンラインで無料閲覧できる青空文庫でも問題ありません。

The participant and Kakinoki will ‘encounter’ and, ‘converse’ while strolling.
Please choose meeting points, approximate routes, and starting topics according to your interests and convenience.
The locations will be in the old Hongo ward neighbourhood (including Bunkyo ward and Ueno). The topics will be around romance, love and sex, including the ones related to the area, Soseki and Ogai.
*You can still participate if you can’t walk. Please contact TOKAS after reserving your slot.

In this performance, fixity and fluidity of history, digital materials and of acts of documenting and recording will be explored by improvising the act of studying history, and improvising with the immediate recordings of the act. The recorded sounds of reading, writing, squiggling and perhaps occasional mumbling will be fluidified through the author’s physical manipulation. What the author does in the performance can be regarded as learning, examining, organising, disorganising, manipulating or forging both certain history and the act of learning it.
The nature and the poetic sentiment of learning are other inherent elements behind the performance. The author is working on research-based art practice, particularly interested in the field of the culinary culture and human history, and of the sexual and marital culture and human history. He exposes his ongoing research process in the format of performance.

このパフォーマンスは、歴史を学ぶという行為とその行為を録音したものを即興演奏することによって、歴史、デジタルマテリアル、記録および録音という行為における固定性と流動性を探求する。読む音、書く音、なぐり書く音、あるいはひょっとするとぶつぶつ言う音などが、作家の肉体的な介入によって流動化される。このパフォーマンスにおいて作家が行うのは、ある歴史とそれを学ぶ行為を、学び、調べ、編制し、混乱させ、操作し、偽造することである。
学びの本質と詩情もまた、このパフォーマンスに内在する要素である。作家は現在リサーチベースのアート制作に取り組んでおり（食と人類史、性愛と人類史といった領域に特に関心を持つ）、パフォーマンスという形式によって、進行中のリサーチプロセスをさらすこととなる。

Collaboration with Dr Wiebke Leister (London College of Communication, UAL)
Exploring in depth the psychological and aesthetic significance of voice and face masking through collaboration on a live improvisation with collage and soundscape. Echoes and Afterlives, performed publication with soundscape will emphasis on liveness and re-mediation between sound, still image and performance by using the sounds generated from the gestures of cutting and folding the pages and improvising with these sonic environments, which in turn will give impulses to the live collage.

Contact Points with Tübingen Soundscape / site-specific audiovisual improvisation | GENERATE!° 2017
‘David Lowenthal has written: “Perception of scenery is only open to those who have no real part to play in the landscape.”' (R. Murray Schafer, 1994) For this performance, abirdwhale (Kakinoki Masato) resides in Tübingen for a certain period, and soaks himself in the soundscape of the city. He fixes the sound objects taken from the Tübingen soundscape in audio files, and then curves and fluidifies them into his own soundscapes through audiovisual improvisation.
Through the improvisation, the audience would sonically experience the artist’s journey into the city. There, the recorded external reality will be abstracted into the artist’s internal responses, imagination and ideal soundscapes. What he attempts to show is not the analytical presentation of the total soundscape of Tübingen, but rather, 'a sensation, not a finished work of art’, which is ’the “primary process” of making contact with matter’ (Robert Smithson 1996), the soundscape.
This improvisation is his process of seeking for the contact points with the city. The generated visuals indicate his physical intervention in the soundscapes, and sonic transformations. As he manipulates and uses the sounds with his hands during the performance, the contact points would be where the city is embodied and integrated with him, or where his mind and body are absorbed by the city. By referring to Thomas McEvilley, there is the aspect of letting the outside world into the performing space (McEvilley, 1992) in the performance.
The residency takes place in October 2017, and the performance is from 9:00pm to 9:30pmon 21 October 2017.
