With the work, Kakinoki has two primary interests. Firstly, he attempts to contrast the liveness with his improvisation and the deadness of the materials. The documentaries and the books on ancient Egypt tell stories of dead objects. As the documentary and the books are ‘recordings’, they are dead too. By improvising with such audio materials, Kakinoki unfolds another version of the ‘afterlife’ of the dead objects, or another version of history within his live performance.
Secondly, the differences between the histories of the same topic is another underlying focal point of this work. Through the process of gathering historical materials, Kakinoki started to wonder how we believe or accept one version of history. Not only the literal contents of descriptions, but the tone of voice, the music and sounds used to deliver the history differ from material to material. By improvising with the documentaries and the texts from different times, places and authors, the fragility and the inherent uncertainty of the act of recording history emerge. The audio materials include BBC documentaries, BBC radio programmes, NHK (Japan’s national public broadcasting organisation) documentaries, books written by American scholars, and the Histories by Herodotus written in 440 BC.
Some materials retain their narrative meanings, some are abstracted and dissolved into sonic elements, and some go between the two states ambiguously. Even though the chosen materials are mainly about the ancient time, the sonic journey meandering between narrative and abstract, is the stimulation and invitation to internally reflect on the current socio-political situations. What Kakinoki creates through the process organically keeps transforming between soundscape, music, texts and history.

概要
本作品には、主たる視点が二つ存在する。 一つは、即興行為における「ライブ性」と、素材の「死者性」 を対照させる試みである。古代エジプトに関するドキュメンタリーや書物は、死んでいるオブジェクトについて語っており、ドキュメンタリーや書物も「記録」という死んでいるオブジェクトである。それらを使って即興演奏をすることによって、Kakinokiは死んでいるオブジェクトの来世、あるいはもう一つの歴史のバージョンを、パフォーマンスの中で展開する。
二つ目の視点は、同じテーマを扱う歴史間に存在する差異について。歴史素材を収集する過程においてKakinokiは、私たちがどのようにしてある一つの歴史のバージョンを信じる、あるいは受け入れているのか、ということについて考え始めた。記述内容のみならず、声のトーン、歴史を伝えるためにそこで使われている音楽や音といった要素も、素材によって異なる。違う時代、場所、作者によるドキュメンタリーやテキストを扱って即興行為をすることによって、歴史を記録するという行為に内在する脆さや不確実性が立ち上がる。音素材はBBCのドキュメンタリー、BBCのラジオ番組、NHKのドキュメンタリー、アメリカの学者による書籍、ヘロドトスが紀元前440年に書いた『歴史』など。
ある素材は意味性を保ったまま再生され、ある素材は音の要素へと抽象化あるいは溶解され、またある素材はそれらの間を曖昧に行き来する。扱われる素材は主に古代に関するものであるものの、抽象性と意味性の間をさまよう音の旅は、現在の社会政治的状況についての内的思考を刺激し、誘う。Kakinokiがこれらのプロセスの中で作り出すものは、サウンドスケープ、音楽、テキスト、歴史の間を有機的に変容し続ける。
